3 Top Wedding Planning Tips & Tricks

When you’re in the midst of planning your wedding, there are some things that are always nice to know, such as the wedding dress shapes that are all the rage, to the bridesmaids dress colours that are making a comeback. Then there are the things that are essential, such as your budget, flowers, wedding gown and everything in between, these are the things that you will be glad that someone told you.

So, if your busy planning your special day and wondering if there is anything that you may have forgotten, why not check out our top 3 tips and tricks that will not only help with the planning but will also take some of the stress out of the equation.

1.  Research Your Wedding Date

It may seem straightforward, but one of the best tips we can give you is to research your wedding date. What we mean is, there may be a charity event, conference or other local event that could affect the traffic and availability in terms of hotel rooms for your guests, so make sure you check if there is anything else that will be on the same day as your wedding.

2. Check the Weather

This is another very important tip, as any weather hiccups can potentially change your wedding day, from torrential rain, to blazing heat (slightly hopeful for us UK brides ūüôā ) it is always important to cater your wedding accordingly, as the last thing you want is an outdoor wedding when showers are imminent! As long as you’re prepared your wedding should go without a hitch!

3. Get Focused

This may seem like a simple tip, but you would be amazed at the amount of brides who start off with the best of intentions and end up forgetting key items for their special day. We recommend buying a wedding planner, or a ring binder, where you can store all your wedding correspondence that you have had with your venue, vendors etc. It will be an absolute blessing to have all of your wedding items in one place, that way you will not get stressed out with things you may or may not have forgotten.

Purchasing your wedding dress is one of the most exciting shopping trips that you will ever go on, but there are a few things that you should bare in mind to ensure that your shopping trip is successful not stressful!

The majority of brides go with the best of intentions, however as soon as they try on their ‘dream’ dress, all sense and reasoning seems to go out of the window, so to prevent your wedding dress outing turning into a disaster, simply follow our top tips below.

1. Research, Research, Research!

I cannot stress enough how important is is to have a really good idea of what you want before you step into a bridal store. I am not saying you have to pick your dress online and limit your options, but it is super important to at least have some idea of what you’re looking for.

2. Begin the process Early

Most experts would advise you start looking around eight months before your big day to give yourself enough time for alterations, but if you’re going for a handmade dress we recommend starting the process 9-10 months before your special day.

But remember if you buy your dress too early, you may experience second thoughts with regards to your choice in the months leading up to the wedding day. So time your bridal shopping to suit you and your wedding.

5. Be clear about your budget

This is the main area where brides struggle. Some brides have no idea of the costs involved with a bridal gown purchase. It is not just the dress that you will have to consider, alterations can add a sizeable chunk onto the cost as well.

We recommend having your budget in place before you even set foot in any bridal store, say it out loud, say it to your friends and more importantly say it at your wedding dress appointment as the last thing you want to do is fall in love with a bridal gown that you simply cannot afford.

5 Top Tips For An Everlasting Marriage

After you’ve had your beautiful wedding ceremony and reception, the hard work really begins! Now I’m not saying marriage is always going to be a struggle, but there will definitely be a few bumps along the road. It is also important to remember that every relationship is different and you shouldn’t compare your relationship to anyone else’s as this just causes more issues!

There are a few simple steps you can take which will ensure that your marriage gets off to a flying start and goes the distance.

So, to start off your married life the right way, check out our simple tips.

1. Talk to your spouse kindly, it is more than likely you have married your best friend, so instead of speaking to your spouse harshly (we tend to snap at those closest to us) take a few seconds to make the effort and treat them with kindness.

2. Remember that the happiest couple don’t have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything. It may sound simple, but if you remember this it will make things so much better and just remember why you chose to spend the rest of your life with this special person. Remember that he picked you and you picked him.

3. Laughter is one of the most important things in marriage, too often we get bogged down with the logistics involved with daily life from shopping lists, to who will be picking the children up. A good marriage can’t survive on logistics alone, so throw some fun in there and don’t be afraid to make a fool of yourself once in a while.

4. Remember why you fell in love with each other! Even if you take just a few minutes out each day to enjoy a nice meal, or go for a nice walk, these moments that you spend alone together will give you masses of memories for many years to come.

5. Last, but by no means least, the most importance piece of advice I could give, say yes far more frequently than you say no.

Navy has the same principles as black but it is a little bit more fun and modern. Navy is not only incredibly flattering, it is a colour that will mean your bridesmaids can wear the dress again.

3. Grey

Grey is one of my absolute favourite colours, not only is it incredibly elegant, it is cool modern and beautifully neutral, making it the perfect shade for any wedding. Depending on the shade you go for, Grey instantly minimizes any imperfections.

4. Plum

If you’re looking ¬†for a color that is vibrant and makes a statement, then plum is most definitely the shade for you! Rich, elegant, and associated with royalty, this deep purple shade will add an elegant touch to your special day. It is also incredibly flattering and can be used in your wedding no matter what season we’re in.

5. Teal

Teal is becoming an increasingly popular choice in terms of bridesmaids dresses. It is not only flattering for most figures, it also works well with any skin tone.

Is Wedding Insurance Really Worth It?

I am sure we have all had wedding insurance pushed upon us during the planning stages of our weddings, but very few brides actually bother with wedding insurance as they feel it is just another expense.

I know that the thought of adding more expenses to a wedding budget sounds awful but trust me, wedding insurance will be one of the smallest expenses when it comes to planning your big day. Not only is wedding insurance one of the smallest expenses but it also takes a huge weight off of your shoulders should the worst happen.

Depending on what level of cover you go for, insurance can cost from £30 to £300+, we recommend doing your research and going for a provider who is willing to cover everything you need.

Every insurer is different, but the majority cover the following items:-

Supplier failure

This can include your florist, caterer, cake decorator and everything in between. It is a good safety net to have, as if your florist has an emergency and can’t provide the flowers it is always nice to know that you will be able to arrange a replacement without having to worry about the additional cost.

The majority of insurers cover cancellation, a few companies even cover ‘cold feet’, the general rule of thumb however is if the weather is bad, or any reason beyond your control means you have to cancel your wedding will be covered.

Presents and cash/vouchers

The majority of your gifts should be covered for loss, theft or damage, however we would always recommend checking with the insurer in case they have any restrictions or stipulations, such as locking your gifts away.

Extra Bits and Bobs

You’ll also find some insurers will cover damage or loss to the wedding dress and hired menswear, wedding rings, flowers and cake. The list can go on to include stationery, redundancy, essential documents and fireworks, basically the sky is the limit with certain insurers, but remember for all of these extras you will pay more money.
